"My garden is all overblown with roses,
My spirit is all overblown with rhyme."

Vita Sackville-West

Of Earthly Delights

"She has been called a pantheist, and pagan, sensuous, Dionysiac; but that is an oversimplification. She also knew, perhaps the word is 'trusted,' that to be born sentient and watchful is a daily miracle; that the paradis terrestre, the earthly paradise around us, is as wonderful an index of heaven as we shall ever know."

Robert Phelps, in his introduction to
Colette's Collected Writings,
Earthly Paradise

Last year's tree just taken outside
and planted on the patio in February...

Won't you come sit with me
in my garden?

A Compendium
Of Homely Arts

"This is the gate of my garden. I invite you to enter in: not only into my garden, but into the world of gardens -- a world as old as the history of man, and as new as the latest contribution of science; a world of mystery, adventure and romance; a world of poetry and philosophy; a world of beauty; and a world of work. Never let yourself be deceived about the work..."

Elizabeth Lawrence, Through The Garden Gate

Wabi-Sabi Writing ...

... is soul work. It is not creative writing
(although it certainly IS creative in its way) but more
therapeutic writing, it is about learning to use writing
as a *practice* like meditation or yoga is a practice.
It takes you through many levels and layers of your
subconscious mind, unravelling layers of your life,
opening your heart to a kind compassion for your own
life and the world around you through timed-writing
exercises. I always use, in the first class, which is longer
than subsequent classes because I introduce the process in
depth, a quote from Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, "We
must open in the face of tremendous opposition. No one is
encouraging us to open, and still we must peel the layers
of the heart."
My role is like a midwife, helping my
students birth their own true inner selves, develop kind
compassion for their lives, and help them unravel the
knots of their lives.
